About Us
We bought our daughter’s first horse in the Spring of 2020 during the height of the Covid lockdowns. It was a special feeling being at a remote barn, 45 minutes from town, surrounded by nothing but nature and of course horses. I had never been around a horse so this was a completely new experience and much different from the low country island life I had grown accustomed to. My wife on the other hand had grown up with horses. She had several on her family farm and some of her very first jobs were mucking stalls. She and her Dad would regularly travel to horse shows on the weekends in and around Georgia. So I guess it was inevitable that one day she would return to her passion for horses and share that passion with our daughter.
Little did I realize what buying this first pony would morph into. As a family I would now say without a doubt most of our time and money is dedicated to the horse life. From lessons, to traveling horse shows, boarding, riding gear, tack, and of course the vet bills…the vet bills. Can someone explain why a saddle is so expensive? I also initially didn’t understand why special pants were required to ride a horse. Let’s also multiply the above by two as there was absolutely no way my daughter was getting her own horse and my wife wasn’t. I would imagine that most Dads in my situation feel the same way and like most Dads we wouldn’t have it any other way.
I came up with the idea for Horse Dad to represent all the Dads out there that got blindly thrown into this crazy wonderful world of horses. Perhaps there are Dads like me who stand behind the scenes in full support of their family but are still trying to determine if that was a clean lead change or a cross canter. Thank you so much for your support and perhaps we’ll see you at a show one day. (Don’t worry we also love the Moms and have gear for you too).
